Hi there, welcome to The Prose Refinery! I’m glad you’re here. My name is Tina, and I am a freelance writer and editor. Through a range of editing services, I collaborate with my clients to help them create self-published content that enhances their credibility and engages customers.

I am a word nerd.

Writing and editing have been a major part of my professional career for over a decade. Finding the perfect word or phrase brings me joy, it’s like winning a box of dark chocolates in a raffle. I’ve even taken writing and editing classes for fun! Here’s a quick overview of my background and I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have when we meet:

  • 13+ years writing and editing for a Fortune 500 company
  • Copyediting Certificate from UCSD
  • Food Writing for Publication Certificate of Completion from Le Cordon Bleu Online Learning
  • Master of Business Administration from USD
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration & Entrepreneurship from USC

I heart self-publishing.

Self-publishing is exciting. It’s an opportunity to showcase your expertise, create value for your customers, and build a community of loyal fans.

A variety of project ideas may have inspired you to seek an editor. You might be looking for high-level support, an in-depth review, or something in between. We’ll go into more detail during our discussion, but here are several examples of projects that we might collaborate on:

  • Website copy
  • Blog posts
  • Articles
  • Newsletters
  • e-Books
  • Lead magnets
  • White papers

Services

Developmental Editing

This step occurs prior to copyediting and focuses on content development. You can think of this as the big picture phase. We work together on the document’s structure and substance so that your idea results in a cohesive narrative that is ready to be fine-tuned for publication.

Copyediting

Once your manuscript is ready for review, it goes through the copyediting phase at one of three levels. The right level depends on how much support is needed to get your document ready for publication:

  1. Light: Correcting irrefutable errors and identifying possible issues that you may want to address.
  2. Medium: A light edit plus identifying sentence and language issues and offering suggestions for improvement.
  3. Heavy: A medium edit plus fact checking, screening for plagiarism, and revising to ensure readability and consistency.

Proofreading

This is essentially a sanity check. It’s one final review before publication that focuses on eliminating any glaring errors.

I look forward to meeting you and discussing how we might work together to make your self-publishing project a success. Cheers, Tina
